Reusing Gold to make new Jewelry

A lot of people ask me about reusing their old gold jewelry to make new jewelry. Unfortunately, it is not that easy.

First of all, gold jewelry is not pure. It can be melted, but melting the gold will results in metal that is not strong. Jewelry made of melting gold will not last too long and it will be weak and not durable. In order to use the gold, it has to be refined. Refining removes the unwanted material from the gold. There are not a lot of jewelers doing this process. Jeweler normally sends this type of gold to the refinery, but when it comes, it will not be the actual gold that you took in. It will be less gold.

You might still use the refined gold; It is up to you in what type of jewelry you want to use the gold.
